Lung Disease

Are you putting enough emphasis on the details of how you breathe? Breathing pattern disorders limit functional performance, cause or perpetuate chronic pain conditions and feed into tension and anxiety.

Bill Gallagher has worked with a broad spectrum of clients spanning the very ill to the very athletic weaving together exercises from the East and West including Yoga, Qigong, Feldenkrais and Tai Chi to develop a common framework for understanding breath. Osteopathic manual therapy can sometimes be very helpful to mobilize the ribcage, rib muscles and diaphragm for improved respiration.

In addition to addressing shortness of breath and dyspnea, breathwork can improve posture, develop balance, reduce pain, soothe mental agitation, enhance spinal stability, promote coordinated movement, facilitate learning and improve function.

Bill Gallagher has worked with thousands of clients and hundreds of clinicians like physical therapists, respiratory therapists, yoga therapists, nurses & chiropractors to improve breathing patterns of people suffering from:

  • Asthma
  • Emphysema
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
  • Restrictive Lung Disease (RLD)
  • Chronic bronchitis
  • Pulmonary fibrosis
  • Sarcoidosis
  • Hyperventilation Syndrome

He sees patients at his office on the Upper West Side (UWS) of New York City and makes home visits to clients on the Upper East Side (UES) and Upper West Side of Manhattan (NYC).
