Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a disorder classified by the presence of chronic widespread pain and a painful response to pressure. Other symptoms include myofascial pain syndrome also referred to as Chronic Myofascial Pain, diffuse paresthesias, fatigue, sleep disturbance, and joint stiffness. Sometimes symptoms include difficulty with swallowing, bowel and bladder irregularities, numbness and tingling, and cognitive difficulties. Many patients experience cognitive dysfunction ("brain fog" or "fibrofog"), including impaired concentration, problems with memory and processing. Fibromyalgia is a controversial diagnosis as there is no objective “test” to rule in or rule it out. Bill Gallagher’s approach to treating fibromyalgia includes a customized combination of:

  • Osteopathic Work (myofascial release, positional release therapy, muscle energy technique)
  • Yoga (pranayama, gentle postures, mental techniques)
  • Qigong (martial qigong to maximize strength while minimizing tension)
  • Alexander Technique
  • Feldendkrais
  • Meditation
  • Cognitive-behavioral Work

Holistic Physical Therapist, treats people with fibromyalgia on a daily basis as his approach works particularly well with fibromyalgia symptoms. He has an office at 88th and Broadway on the upper West Side of Manhattan and makes house calls to the upper East side and upper West Side of New York City (NYC)
