Bill Gallagher has been working with elders to prevent falls and reverse frailty for more than a decade. He offers a combination of physical exercise (Tai Chi, Qigong, Yoga, Feldenkrais, conventional strength & flexibility training) mental techniques (meditation, guided imagery) and manual therapy (osteopathy, massage, myofascial release, shiatsu, conventional physical therapy) to slow or reverse the effects of aging. While some of his elderly patients are "gung ho" most need to be "sold" on the benefits of an incrementally progressed program. Some of his patients see him on an ongoing basis like Marjorie who is 97 years old and has been working with him for 10 years. Others work with Bill for a few sessions, few weeks or months to get to the point where they can continue the work on their own. Some of these clients schedule a "tuneup" periodically to modify exercises or get manual therapy that enhances comfort or function.
Bill has the knowledge and experience in geriatric physical therapy to know the difference between decline that can be avoided or reversed and decline in function that is not changeable through the "tools" in his "toolbox". Practices like breathwork and meditation can help elders avoid the suffering that aging can bring.
Bill Gallagher provides physical therapy for elders in New York City (NYC). He makes house calls and home visits in Manhattan for Geriatric clients.
